About - The maximum length for a RS485 dataline is 1km. Using a repeater on the dataline allows it to be extended further. Each repeater extends the maximum overall dataline length by 1km. A maximum of five repeaters can be used on a single dataline.
The repeater can also be used to allow branching of the dataline. Where the repeater is installed the dataline may be continued in two directions if required (see illustration below). For some applications this will reduce complexity and save on cable.
Installation - The repeater is supplied as a PCB board or mounted in a plastic housing with a 12V dc power supply. There are rising clamp terminals to allow extension of the dataline, or to branch off in another direction.
Onboard resistors give flexibility in wiring: Jumpers on - terminated, jumpers off - unterminated.
